10 on 10: April 2016

I’ve been in a photography slump lately.  I’ve taken workshops, but I’m just tired.  Running after a toddler and a 4 month old baby, it can get exhausting.  And I’m just taking pictures to take them.  I’ve fallen off the 365 wagon (digital version).  I’ve been shooting, just haven’t been editing.  I’ve fallen in love with film.  I’m not able to get on the laptop and edit.  I love the colors of film.  The only problem is that I don’t get instant gratification.  Which is why I still shoot digital.  But this isn’t a love letter to film.

The 10th happened to fall on Ariya’s 3rd birthday.  Ariya decided she wanted a Sophia the First themed party.  And what started off as a small party with a few close friends turned into something bigger.  Family came into town.  We had a petting zoo.  It was nice, but wow, it was exhausting.

So, I didn’t shoot a true day in the life, it was chaos trying to get ready for the party.  Honestly, I turned my fuji x100t on auto, thinking I’d give it to someone to shoot.  Big mistake.  a lot of the photos were out of focus.  I didn’t change the ISO to auto, so a lot of the outdoor shots were blown out and not salvageable.  I was wearing Asha in a wrap b/c that was the only way that she would take a nap, so taking pictures were not very comfortable. the angles are awkward, etc.  I shot film outside, which i have to send out to the lab, so I won’t get those photos of the petting zoo until sometime next week or the week after.  The downfall of film, the wait.

What I realized, and hopefully learned from this is that I’m no longer taking a gazillion photos at my daughters’ birthday party.  Either hire someone, or get a photographer friend to help.  But if it’s just me, I’m taking a few key photos and that’s it.  Because there was no way to be 100% present.  And a lot of my photos were not the best, so it almost doesn’t seem worth it.  Anyway, that’s me just venting.  It was a great day, just wasn’t documented in the best way.  Live and learn.

Here’s a few from our day.

10 on 10 – November 2015

I’ve officially ended my 2nd Project 365 on October 31st, and have taken a break from taking photos for a while.  Going from one 365 straight to the next was a recipe for burn out and that’s what happened to me.  I did complete an amazing video workshop, which I’ll blog about later.  But when the 10th rolled around, a friend of mine in our blog circle reminded us, and I had to do it.  Unfortunately, (or maybe fortunately), I took too many photos.  It was a dreary depressing rainy day, brightened by a visit with a good friend and her baby girl.  Since we’re expecting a baby girl in December, I wanted to see how my daughter would interact with a little baby.  And my friend, a fellow hobbyist photographer, has amazing windows in her house, and awesome light.  So at least I had a few decent pictures with natural light.  But for the rest of the evening, it was dark dark dark!  Which gave me a great reason to break out the flash.  Most of my favorite photos are of bath time, the flash made a world of difference!

I hope she always loves to read!

10 on 10 – August

I haven’t blogged in a while, so excuse me if I’m a little rusty.  The 10th has snuck up on me yet again.  I didn’t get to take any pictures of Ariya’s last Little Gym session with my nice camera (just had my cell phone on me), but I picked up my Fuji x100t for the rest of the day. So here’s my day.

Can’t start my day without some type of workout at the gym.

This is what’s currently going on in our house.  Mentally getting ready to potty train my toddler.  She’s peeing in the potty, but we haven’t given up the diapers yet.  Hoping this book will give me a good plan of action.

10 on 10 – June

It’s that time again, 10 on 10 for June. Check out what we did today.  All of these photos were taken with the Fuji x100t.  Trying to get used to it before our big trip to Italy.  But first….

Amazing light will make even the most cluttered kitchen seem not so bad.   DSCF4711

Oh poor pitiful Charlie.  Poor guy has allergies, and what I found out today, hives.  Go figure.  Don’t worry, we now have medicine for him, and hopefully it will all get better soon.DSCF4720

And now it’s Ariya’s turn.  This girl was a ROCK STAR.  She got her teeth cleaned and a fluoride treatment.  16 teeth, but no 2 year molars yet.  She got to pick out 3 prizes and got a Frozen balloon.  She seems pretty happy here.

After that, we went to the Discovery museum to meet up with friends.  She’s not too concerned with my camera, she’s all about playing with her friends.DSCF4740

As you can tell here.

After lunch, we got home and attempted a nap.  This girl was too amped up to nap, so it was tv time.  I try to get in the image sometimes.  The fuji is great for selifies!DSCF4758

I’m obsessed with this girl’s eyelashes!  I’m trying out the macro option here.DSCF4765

I’m also obsessed with light.  I just wrapped up a workshop called Magic of Light, taught by Summer Murdock.  Her work is awesome, you should definitely check her out!DSCF4771

This girl is obsessed with light switches.  Off…on…off..on….. and on and on it goes.DSCF4803

10 on 10 Blog Circle – May

So, this month’s edition fell on Mother’s Day.  Unfortunately, I only have 8 pictures instead of 10.  I tried, I really tried.  I wish I had more exciting photos, but I wasn’t feeling that great, which led to an awesome 3 hour nap when my daughter napped.  My husband surprised me with tickets to see Prince in Baltimore that night, so it took all I had to rally.  But come on, it’s Prince.  You don’t bail on Prince.  Too bad I couldn’t take pictures in the arena.  But here’s what I came up with for this month’s 10 on 10.  All of these are taken with the Fuji x100t.  A learning curve, but still fun to play with.

Ariya is currently OBSESSED with Frozen.  After she gave me the card (for long enough to take this picture), she snatched it right back and played with it for the rest of the morning.

10 on 10 – March 2015

I thought I’d try to keep this blogging thing up.  Who knows if anyone actually reads this blog, but I thought it would be nice to get my thoughts out and photos organized for all of these photography projects that I’ve got going on.  You can keep up with my Project 365 and Project 52 on my Facebook page.

The reason for this post.  I’ve recently taken a workshop called Everyday Beauty with Ginger Unzeuta through the Bloom Forum.  It was amazing, inspiring and motivating.  Sometimes, I get hung up on creating the perfect photo, or why my photos aren’t sharp enough, or the composition just isn’t right, etc.  There’s always something in the back of my mind, the doubt, the frustration.  Why do I keep this up?  Why don’t I just give up?  I’ll save my reasons for another blog post and another day.  Right now, I’m just glad that I’m sticking with it.

So, through this workshop, one of our assignments was a 10 on 10.  Basically 10 photos throughout the day, or 10 hours.  I’ve decided to do this on the 10th of every month, just to make it easy.  It’s fun to see how a day in our lives look.  You can find my other  10 on 10s here and here.

Ok, enough of that, onto the photos!

Gotta start the morning right with some coffee!1
