I need to take this photography thing on the road, in a different setting. I feel like I’m in another rut, and I just need to get out of this environment, take pictures of different subjects. I live in a pretty scenic area, and there are always cows and sheep to look at. I wish I could just pull over and take some pictures. But this country road does not have any shoulders, and I’d probably make some drivers pretty upset. I can’t wait until it warms up, so that I can take Ariya for a stroll and take some scenic pictures.
In the mean time, I’ve captured (or attempted to capture) nap time for Ariya and Charlie. I say attempted to for Ariya because she can be a light sleeper. I’ve tried taking pictures of her when she’s asleep, but she wakes up as soon as I walk in her room! So here’s the first picture that I actually got of her lying down. She’s always on the go, so this was pretty huge.
it’s also hard to capture Charlie napping, only because he’s always trying to do something, go somewhere, be outside. I think I’ve let him out 3 times already in one hour tonight! There’s always something exciting out there. But for once, he was calm today. Must have been that huge flinstone type bone that he’s been gnawing on all day.
I received some constructive criticism regarding my use of aperture/shutter speed/ISO in low light situations. The problem is, my kitchen does not have a lot of light. So I have to crank up the ISO, decrease the shutter speed and aperture to get a decent shot. The problem is that the pictures are not tack sharp. Here’s the picture that was commented on.
Another CC was that the hand shouldn’t have been cut off. The problem is, this baby just crawls too fast, and I couldn’t back up fast enough! Definitely need to keep framing in mind when I compose these shots.
So, with all this in mind, I decided to do a “photoshoot” in Ariya’s bedroom. She has amazing light, and I could adjust the shutter speed and aperture to create more focus. Hope I’m making progress.
I can’t believe I’ve been at this thing for 88 days. So crazy. I don’t know if I’m getting better, but I’ve definitely learned a lot. It’s definitely tough taking pictures outside in this crazy cold. But here are a few pictures that I’ve taken within the past few days.
I went away for the weekend and didn’t get a chance to take any decent pictures. So I picked an old one to edit in LR. I wanted to create some sort of dreamy like blur/softness. Here’s my attempt.
I’m part of a Project 365 group on Facebook, and one of the members had posted a youtube tutorial on how to edit a picture that she had taken of bath time. The way she had edited it made it look like the bath tub was black. It was really an interesting picture. So, I took that as a challenge to try and recreate.
Here’s my version of it.
I received a challenge from the last picture that I posted. Someone had suggested that I remove my husband’s shadow and create a tighter crop. now I’m wondering if I should remove the shadow from the bushes to the right of my puppy. But what do you think? Pretty good challenge, I need more practice with my cloning 🙂
But for today’s pictures, I was in a black and white kind of mood. I really liked the shadows of these pictures.
Still working through Lightroom. Snow days are great, the dogs always have a blast and are running and playing through the snow. I love taking pictures of them playing, but with snow days, they always look so gray and dreary. So I thought I’d try a black and white conversion here. How does it look?
I’m sure I’ve written this before….but I don’t know what the heck I’m doing. I signed up for a lightroom class in February and I’m SOOO looking forward to it. I have a manual that I’m reading, but you know how it is, it’s a manual. Even if they try to make it interesting, sometimes I think I just learn better by someone teaching it to me and me practicing. We’ll see how this class goes.
I didn’t have time to take any pictures today, so I thought I’d work on editing the pictures that I took yesterday. here’s another shot of Charlie and shadows of him and my husband. I’m trying to edit out my shadow, and thought I did a great job where the bottom of my legs are but somehow I lost it around the thighs and upwards. What am I doing wrong?
Ariya enjoyed her stay at the Melrose Hotel in Georgetown. here she is, ordering room service.
